My grandfather was a mystery to me, he would stare in to oblivion, I had no idea what he thought about or whether he thought of anything at all. Not a person to try to make contact with others, he was an insular individual. During my childhood I was a little scared of him, later that feeling passed.

Suddenly, on the 14th of May 2016, grandfather became ill, he was rushed in to hospital. The next day I made the first series of photographs.

On the 18th of May 2016 I was told that as his health had deteriorated and that it had been decided by his children to turn off any life support. One hour later grandfather had died. I then made the second series of photographs.
Grandfather’s death had quite an effect on me. I didn’t really know the man, to the point that I’m not sure if I liked him or whether I found him to be irritating or boring.
